The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, or APLA, in Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction, or CADC, will welcome its first group of students into the new undergraduate Landscape Architecture Program for fall semester this August. The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, or BLA, program at Auburn University received approval from the Alabama Commission on Higher Education earlier this year and is the only undergraduate landscape architecture program in the State of Alabama.
Building on the momentum and spirit of the longstanding graduate program in landscape architecture, the undergraduate BLA program will emphasize studio-based learning as the core means for educating students in design.
“The BLA program will be anchored on four tenets: fieldwork, landscape advocacy, design thinking and expanding the field,” CADC Dean Vini Nathan said. “Specifically, students will be prepared to imagine, design and build 21st century landscapes by being curious, resourceful, precise and attentive. We believe in the value of repetition: we do, we reflect, we repeat. Our end goal is always action, so we build the know-how needed to get to it.”
