Happy Midterm Parents & Families,

As we arrive at Midterm for the university, we wanted to take an opportunity to welcome our parents and families who have joined the Family Portal to the platform, and greet those that have joined recently as part of our regular integration. When your student enrolled they had an opportunity to list a parent or family member in their application, and they listed you!

Midterm marks a pivotal point in the academic journey of a student at Auburn, and hopefully this will serve as a timely reminder to check-in with your student and make sure they're progressing where they need to. In an ideal world, Midterm serves as a time to confirm that their developed habits and behaviors are paying off and they are making progress toward finishing the remainder of the semester. It also can be a time where difficult conversations need to take place about performance and ability to move forward.

We encourage you to explore and look through the different communities available in the platform that may be of interest to you. We work to make sure that current and relevant information is provided in each.

Additionally, if you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to connect with your student to gain access to information. Midterm grades are being posted as we speak. By connecting to your student, you can receive information on their grades at midterm and final; course schedule; and other information. As we look at Midterm grades, and before we go scorched Earth based on what we see, this is an excellent time to talk to your student about what their Midterm grade represents.

For some, their Midterm will represent half of the available points in their course, and is an accurate reflection of performance to date. For others, their midterm grade may be based upon one or two minor quizzes, and there still be ample point opportunities to bring up grades. They have this information, have the conversation.

We should also address that not every course will have a Midterm grade uploaded. In those instances, this is still the perfect time to speak with your students about their performance so far in the term. Yes, it may be a challenging conversation, but that doesn’t mean we should shy away from it.

Fall 2022 is halfway done, and we hope that your student is off to a strong start. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with you all.

Warmly,

Torey
