Posted about 1 year ago in Parent & Family NewsUniversity Housing.

The housing renewal process for university students offers numerous opportunities for personal growth and development. Now is a great time to check in with your student to ensure they are effectively managing their housing arrangements for the 2024-2025 school year.

If your student currently lives in AU on-campus housing and submitted their Intent to Renew Form, here are a few things to know.

Students Living in 160 Ross, South Donahue, or 191 College

If your student currently lives in 160 Ross, South Donahue, or 191 College AND submitted their Intent to Renew Form, they will be granted access to the Renewal Application and Room Selection form via a timeslot. Timeslots were emailed to all students last week and were randomly assigned to students who submitted an Intent to Renew Form.

Students Living in All Other On-Campus Housing

On-campus residents not currently residing in 160 Ross, South Donahue, or 191 College who submitted their Intent to Renew Form will be able to log into their housing student portal beginning Wednesday, October 25 to access the Renewal Application and Room Selection Form. Access to the application and room selection will be granted via a timeslot. Resident Assistant (RA) Applications for 2024-2025 Open November 13

If your student intends to live in on-campus housing next year and is interested in serving as an RA, encourage them to apply when applications open on November 13. RAs help residents adjust to living on campus, develop a sense of community among residents, and monitor the safety and security of the residence halls. Throughout the year, RAs plan programs for residents, talk with residents about upcoming campus events, assist students in adjusting to campus living, and ensure residents are familiar with policies and procedures.

RAs receive a single room at no cost and work 8-12 hours a week at the Area Office, where they receive an hourly wage.

In addition to the financial benefits listed above, RAs also gain leadership experience, develop problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, and enhance their communication skills. These are all desirable qualities employers seek for professional jobs.
