If you sit in front of Langdon Hall for a few minutes, you’ll notice something: Auburn students carefully avoid a bronze seal on the ground when walking to class. The caution stems from a legend that says if a student steps on the seal, they will not graduate in four years, will not find their true love at Auburn, and will have seven generations of Alabama fans in their family.
The Seal features prominently in Auburn’s Ring Tradition, too. When students receive their class ring a Ring Night, they tap their ring on the Auburn seal. This symbolizes the rings absorbing all of Auburn’s history from founding to present. This also means the rings are placed under the curse of the seal. The ring recipient then dips their ring in water from the President’s fountain, which removes the curse but leaves the Auburn spirit behind to live on in the ring and in the heart of its owner forevermore.
