Implications of Dropping a Course
At this point in the semester, many students are considering dropping a course with a W grade. If your student in the midst of this decision, here are some things they should consider before dropping a course, especially if it brings them below 12 hours which is full-time status.
- Financial Aid and Scholarships: Students can lose eligibility for certain scholarships, financial aid and grants, which may require full-time enrollment of at least 12 hours.
- Academic Progress: Dropping a course leads to slower progress toward degree completion, which may extend the time needed to graduate.
- Student Specific Benefits: Some students may lose veteran’s benefits, Visa status, or even car insurance discounts by dropping below full-time status.
