Summer classes 2025

Posted 10 months ago  in Auburn NewsAcademics.

Whether it’s to get ahead or catch-up, summer classes can be a great option for your student. The summer semester is different than the fall and spring in many ways. While it's helpful to check out the academic calendar, we've also gathered some additional details below to help you support your student with their summer plans.

When do summer classes begin and end at Auburn?
Summer 2025 classes at Auburn are offered in 3 different term options:

  1. First 5 -Week Term: May 19 – June 27
  2. Second 5-Week Term: June 30 – August 8
  3. Full Term: May 19 – August 8

Because terms are shorter, classes meet for longer periods of time. For example, a course that meets three times a week for 50 minutes in the fall or spring semester may meet every day of the week for 90 minutes in a 5 – Week Term to cover the same amount of material.

What courses are offered in the summer?
While each academic department decides which classes are offered over the summer and in which summer term, core classes are more likely to be offered in the summer than upper-level courses.

Can my student come home for the summer and take an online course at Auburn?
A selection of courses will be offered online over the summer. Course section numbers starting with the letter “D” are taught online. Students should confirm if their classes have a specific meeting time or are asynchronous and contact the instructor with any additional questions.

Does my student’s scholarships or financial aid cover summer tuition?
This will depend on the specific details of your student’s financial aid and scholarship package. For these questions, your student should contact University Financial Aid and the Office of University Scholarships.
