We are now just a week away from the last day to withdraw from classes with a W grade. Students are often faced with tough decisions this time of the semester.
If your student is navigating these decisions, here are some things they should consider before dropping a course, especially if it brings them below 12 hours which is full-time status.
- Financial Aid and Scholarships: Students can lose eligibility for certain scholarships, financial aid, and grants, which may require full-time enrollment of at least 12 hours.
- Academic Progress: Dropping a class leads to slower progress toward degree completion, which may extend the time needed to graduate.
- Student Specific Benefits: Some students may lose veteran’s benefits, Visa status, or even car insurance discounts by dropping below full-time status.
- Student Organizations: Membership in Greek Life and leadership in many student organizations require students to be enrolled as full-time students.
Encourage your student to seek campus guidance from their academic advisor, University Financial Aid, University Scholarships, and student organization leadership before dropping a course.
The deadline to withdraw from a class at Auburn with a W grade is April 17.
